If nothing else, a new movement with swords in dresses.
The first trailer for Patty Jenkins's WONDER WOMAN arrived with the recently completed San Diego Comic Convention and it's pretty spiffy. Take a look for yourself:
It's a great first look, right? For those unfamiliar, WONDER WOMAN further invites us into the the world of Diana Prince, an Amazonian woman from the island of Themyscira. Her home isle is a man-free zone until Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) washes up on shore after his plane is shot down.
As you can see from the trailer, the film takes place during WWII, and the action looks really great. Wonder Woman is one of the most powerful beings in the DC universe, having the power of flight, super strength, and invulnerability. Not to mention bracelets that deflect bullets and energy blasts, and a lasso that forces people to tell the truth (kind of goofy).
Again, everything looks top notch. I especially like the scene of Diana in the thick of the battlefield, covering behind her shield as bullets are deflected away. Wonder Woman made first appearance in BATMAN V SUPERMAN, but it was largely inconsequential, so having her standalone film (the first of its kind for female superheroes) will go a long way in establishing whether DC can promote a character successfully not named Batman.
We'll find out the answers on June 2, 2017.
