Of course you did. I'm a day late.
Recently crowned Best Actress of 2016, Brie Larson is now the first female headlining Marvel star. Larson is set to play Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel in March 2019 (oof, that's a long wait), but expect her to cameo in an earlier film, probably in GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY VOL. 2, or THOR: RAGNAROK.
Carol Danvers originally became Ms. Marvel after an infusion of Kree blood gave her extraordinary powers like flight, super strength, and power manipulation. That's the dumbed down version, though. She can basically do anything. She has the power of a "white hole," so there's control over the fields of gravity, electromagnetism, and heat. She also has the ability to fly many times faster than the speed of sound. Oh, and she can absorb power like a maniac, so she shrugs off small things like getting struck by lightning and being in the epicenter of a nuclear explosion.
With the way Marvel is printing money nowadays, honestly it's about time that they gave the fairer (and stronger) sex a chance at leading the pack. Larson is a good choice to play the ultra powered heroine, and her star has never been brighter. Plus, she seems like a genuinely joyful person to be around, and she relishes the opportunity. She posted this on her Twitter feed:
Marvel Studios keeps keeping on.
