Let's take a step back a few decades.
Pretty crazy to think that we're coming up on the 25th anniversary of one of the great films in history. The fantastical-comedy--based on William Goldman's 1973 novel of the same name--in short: Westley, a farmhand, loves Buttercup--a beautiful young maiden. He leaves to secure a fortune, but gets captured by the Dread Pirate Roberts. In the meantime Buttercup--fearing Westley dead--agrees to marry Prince Humperdinck.
Days before the wedding, Buttercup is snatched by Vizzini, Fezzik, and Inigo Montoya, who sail away to the Cliffs of Insanity. There, they are met by a man of black who duels all three in various ways. There's the Fire Swamp, complete with R.O.U.S. (Rodents of Unusual Size), and Lightning Sand, and an evil six-fingered man.
As you can see, this film's got everything. Chalk full of swashbuckling, giants, torture, miracle men, and true love. Entertainment Weekly just did a feature of the 1987 film, with an updated shoot of its central stars. If you haven't seen the film (slim chance, I know), but go grab it right away.
The 25-year later cast is below. From left to right: the R.O.U.S., Vizzini (Wallace Shawn), Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), Mrs. Miracle Max (Carol Kane), Prince Humperdinck (Chris Sarandon), photograph of the Grandfather/Narrator (Peter Falk), Westley (Cary Elwes), Buttercup (Robin Wright), Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), The Six-Fingered Man (Christopher Guest), photograph of Fezzik (André the Giant).
