This is great news!
With Colin Trevorrow stepping down for STAR WARS IX, J.A. Bayona is set to take on the sequel to JURASSIC WORLD. Everyone should be happy about this. Bayona’s only English language film was 2012’s THE IMPOSSIBLE, chronicling the terrible tsunami that rocked Indonesia in 2004. Personally, I recommend you checking out EL ORFANATO (THE ORPHANAGE), the Spanish horror/thriller. It is scary and so good.
Seeing that it made over 1.5 billion dollars, I seem to be one of the few detractors of JURASSIC WORLD (terrible writing, nonsense conflict, shoddy women characters, etc.), but having Bayona on board gives me hope for the follow-up. If he can secure Sergio G. Sánchez–his writer for both previous films–then I will carry a T-Rex-sized smile all the way to the theatre.
