And it's a little surprising.
Marvel’s first swing at Spider-Man came during the latest trailer for CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR, and the response was strong. Tom Holland’s Peter Parker/Spider-Man will be a bit player in the upcoming film, but come 2017 he’ll be headlining his own series in yet another reboot.
And just today, Sony (who is still producing the film) purchased the rights to the URL spidermanhomecomingthemovie.com, setting off a buzz about SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING being the new title.
If this is true, it’s unfortunate and a bit goofy. There’s a possibility that Sony is being tongue-in-cheek seeing that Spider-Man is (somewhat) returning to the Marvel family, or maybe the entire movie will take place during Peter’s Homecoming and he’ll up for King only for it to be heartbreakingly ripped out of his grasp by Flash Thompson.
Me? I would have gone with THE SPECTACULAR SPIDER-MAN, or maybe WEB OF SPIDER-MAN. We’ll probably hear more in June or July once the excitement of CIVIL WAR passes.
