They just keep swimming.
Back in 2003 FINDING NEMO was a massive hit for Pixar, a film that follows Albert Brooks's Marlin in a frantic search for his son who is inadvertently captured by scuba divers. INSIDE OUT notwithstanding, Pixar's record has been a little spottier in recent times, more often that not fueled by their insistence of sequels, so we'll see if FINDING DORY can buck the trend of CARS 2 and MONSTERS UNIVERSITY. Of course, even a Pixar flop makes most studios salivate at the returns.
DORY recalls all the past characters, right down to Crush, the stoner sea turtle, but this time it looks as though Dory (Ellen Degeneres) is the one on the quest to find her parents who she has absentmindedly forgotten about.
My thoughts? I'm not sure it's a film we need. Sure, it looks beautiful as its predecessor did, but the story reads stale as it's another fish trying to locate some family members. You'd think that the Pixar braintrust has more original ideas in the pipeline.
