Director Steve McQueen introduced himself to the world with 2008's HUNGER--a film based upon the Irish hunger strike in 1981. It went on to win a handful of awards, including the Caméra d'Or (first-time director) at Cannes.
Michael Fassbender starred in that one, and he's back once more for McQueen's second feature, SHAME. They say the best actors are the ones that are able to delve full-on into their roles. Well, Fassbender must be loving this one a helluva lot more, as SHAME tells the story of Brandon, who suffers from the disorder of sex addiction.
Carey Mulligan (fresh off a impressive turn in DRIVE) plays Brandon's sister who causes his life to spiral out of control. In lesser hands, SHAME could have easily have been laced with sleaze, but this first look appears quite profound.
