It doesn’t clear anything up.
(MINOR SPOILERS AHEAD)
BATMAN V SUPERMAN: DAWN OF JUSTICE has been out less than a week, but already the first deleted scene from the film has hit the web. It’s pretty surprising that we’re privy to something from the cutting room floor at this point in the process. Perhaps Warner Bros. is a little nervous about the consistent flow of confusing reaction coming from audiences.
That said, the scene does little to illuminate what we already (don’t) know. Take a look for yourself.
It’s probably safe to assume that this takes place after Lex has already spliced his own blood with the DNA of the deceased Zod, creating Doomsday, as theS.W.A.T team that breaches the ship isn’t likely to let him go.
The 168 million dollar question is who is the alien Lex is kneeling down in front of? Most likely it’s some sort of disciple of Darkseid, given that it’s hinted that Lex has either been a loyal follower or maybe even brainwashed by the mad titan.
Also, what’s the significance for the three boxes that are hovering there? Best guess is they’re “mother boxes”: alien technology that have a wide array of capabilities, but probably best known for opening up portals to and from Apokolips, the home world of Darkseid. Additionally, the same box was seen in that brief glimpse of Cyborg in BVS, when the box attaches itself to Victor Stone, reforming his lost appendages.
What is certain is how shoddy the CGI is here. These pixelated boxes and the way the creature just disintegrates and floats away looks like something from a college project I did on Final Cut. We’re apparently getting 30 more minutes of footage when the blu-ray releases in a few months, plus, I’m sure a handful of other deleted scenes. Maybe they’ll explain why Lex is sitting in a pool of raspberry jam.
