"You're the Spider-Man from Youtube."
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is bound to be a hit, no one's doubting the power of Marvel and Kevin Feige. That's why it's a little unexpected that the newest trailer looks to spoil some major action set pieces that may have packed a bigger punch for audiences in theaters. See for yourself if you dare.
What do you think? Spider-Man holding together the boat with his webbing from the previous trailer was a possible shot, and now seeing roughly how he gets there lets a little steam out of the engine. That's not to say that there won't be more of those, and with the tongue-lashing that Peter gets from Tony about being reckless (pot, kettle), the sequence certainly seems to fall somewhere in the first act of the film. Marvel's track record is pretty encouraging, so I'm sure all my worries will fade away.
Some other things I liked:
• How Spidey's suit suctions into his body after he activates a switch. That's a neat way to illustrate the speed needed to get in and out of it.
• Michael Keaton and his talons. Really his whole costume. The wings that his character, Adrian Toomes, creates look menacing. Check out that wingspan!
• The rapport between Peter and his best bud Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon. Love the geek-out moment when Ned catches Peter on the ceiling and he drops his significant Lego creation.
• Diversity! Never a bad thing.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING arrives on July 7 of this year. Only a few short months away.
